Hotels Go Green and Cut Costs with Recycled Plastic Bottle Materials

The hotel industry is using recycled plastic materials in an effort to go green and cut costs.

With new 2012 budgets rolling out for the hotel industry, many hotels are looking for new ways to save money without sacrificing quality, comfort or a relaxing experience for their guests. As it turns out, eco-friendly tuxedos, bellman jackets and linens are not only good for the environment, but they offer significant cost savings, as well.

The “green” uniforms and linens are made from recycled polyester materials sourced from discarded plastic bottles. The tuxedos are machine washable – the first in the industry – helping hotels dramatically reduce dry cleaning costs. Hotels can save up to an estimated $1,000 per employee a year with the new tuxes. Bellman jackets are also available in recycled polyester, as well as tablecloths and napkins. With each napkin, three plastic bottles are saved from a landfill.

Recycled plastic materials are continually being used to create a wide variety of new products and structures, from battery chargers to bridges, T-shirts to playground equipment. These innovations help save millions of plastic bottles and other types of packaging from landfills and oceans.
