The Green Carpet Challenge promotes more ethical and sustainable fashion.

This year’s Golden Globes held in January marked the kick-off of the 2012 Green Carpet Challenge, founded by Livia Firth. Firth began the Green Carpet Challenge three years ago to encourage and promote more ethical, sustainable fashion on the red carpet. Since then, she has been attending awards shows with her husband, Colin Firth, wearing only gowns made of eco-friendly fabrics. She kicked of this year’s Green Carpet Challenge wearing a dress designed by Giorgio Armani. The dress was created using a yarn fully derived from recycled plastic bottles and a non-chemical process.

In addition to Armani, the 2012 Green Carpet Challenge participants include other big names in the fashion industry such as Valentino, Chanel, Gucci, Stella McCartney and Alberta Ferretti. By creating gowns made of sustainable materials like recycled plastic bottles, these designers help to raise awareness regarding eco-friendly fashion and the importance of sustainable living – all while contributing to a greener future.

The more plastic bottles are recycled into new products such as clothing, shoes, car parts, bridges and homes, the less toxic materials end up in the earth’s landfills, oceans and air. At Heritage Pioneer, we love hearing about innovative ways to use recycled plastic bottles and reduce waste. We offer sustainable packaging solutions that have a more positive impact on the environment. Contact us today to learn more!
