The Value of Packaging Design

In-house packaging design from Pioneer

People often think of packaging design as the art of creating never-before-seen, eye popping packages that jump off the retail shelf and into the consumer’s shopping cart. While this is sometimes the case, and a worthy goal, packaging design improves sales – and much more. If you haven’t taken a look at your primary packaging lately, you could be missing opportunities to improve the top line and bottom line of your operation.

How Strong Package Design Helps Your Business

  • Cost reduction. Creative, effective package design needn’t cost more money, at least in our opinion. In fact, we believe the opposite: a primary goal of any redesign should be to identify ways to reduce cost.
  • Increased consumer satisfaction. It’s one thing for a package design to make a sale. It’s another thing for the package to make a repeat sale. A good design balances tamper evidence with easy opening, eye appeal with easy disposal.
  • Increased productivity. Designs must be practical – something not always valued highly by designers. But fundamental to our approach is the belief your new package design should be easier to handle, faster to load, and more economical to ship and store. Anything less is a giant step backward.
  • Improved sustainable packaging. Consumers no longer prefer packaging made from renewable resources – they demand it. At this point, we think it’s safe to say that if your packaging is not sustainable, your sales may not be sustainable. Fortunately, there are renewable options for virtually all packaging requirements.

Before creating options, our in-house packaging design team works with you to understand all of your objectives. We want to understand who your customers are, what motivates them to buy, how your packaging compares to that of the competition, and any and all budget constraints. This way, we can present you with package design options that are interesting and implementable.
